John E. Abele
Mr. Abele is retired Founding Chairman of Boston Scientific Corporation. He holds numerous patents, and has published and lectured extensively on the technology of various medical devices as well as on the technical, social, economic, and political trends and issues affecting healthcare. His major current interests are science literacy for children, education, and the process by which new technology is invented, developed, and introduced to society. He is currently Vice Chair of the Board of the F.I.R.S.T. Foundation, a non-profit organization to promote science and technology among young people, and owner of the Kingbridge Centre and Institute in Ontario that provides special services and research to businesses, academia and government. He is a Fellow in both the Society of Interventional Radiology and the American Institute for Medical and Biomedical Engineering, and received honorary degrees from Amherst College, Northeastern University and Wentworth Institute of Technology. Mr. Abele has three grown children and lives with his wife in Shelburne, Vermont.
